Gut Records was founded in 1991 by Guy Holmes formerly a radio plugger who had been Head of Promotions at Island Records. He couldn’t get any interest from any of the record companies he played “I’m Too Sexy” to, he decided to release the track by unknown band Right Said Fred himself. His belief was rewarded with a worldwide hit that is still as popular today as it was nearly 20 years ago. Under his expertise, the fledgling company quickly became one of the UK's leading independent record labels with multi-million selling albums and singles from artists like Tom Jones, Right Said Fred, Jessie J, Aswad, Jimmy Sommerville, Uniting Nations, Fightstar and the Crazy frog series to name a few.
The spin off dance label ‘Gusto’ also had huge success and cemented itself as one of the best dance labels at the time. In August 2008 Phoenix Music International Ltd bought the recording and publishing rights in a seminal deal, which enabled us to keep the brand and the music alive in the infamous label.
