Dog Faced Hermans 1994 album 'Those Deep Buds' now available to Stream and Download!

Originally released in 1994 and now digitally remastered for the first time, Those Deep Buds stands as Dog Faced Hermans' final studio statement and their most powerful work. This album is a testament to the band’s unique sound and lyrical prowess, featuring some of the best lyrics ever to grace a rock album. Notably, the lyric for "Virginia Fur," drawn from a line by Angela Carter, remains particularly staggering.

The album showcases the band at the height of their powers, with members seemingly telepathic in their musical interplay. Tracks like "Lie and Swell" and "Volkswagen" radiate joy, while others like "Keep Your Laws / Off My Body" reveal a more intense, propulsive energy.

Produced by the renowned Guy Fixsen, Those Deep Buds blends jagged guitar riffs, Marion's commanding vocals, and the unexpected inclusion of a trumpet to create a sound both raw and refined. The album draws comparisons to post-punk innovators like Wire, The Slits, and The Raincoats, yet the Hermans carve out their own distinct path. Influences of Krautrock, flamenco percussion, and '20s/'30s jazz intermingle with biting social commentary, all tied together by Fixsen’s masterful production.

Standout tracks include the swinging groove of "Les Femmes et les Filles Vont Danser" and the chilling narrative of "Calley," which revisits the horrors of the My Lai massacre.

Following the album's release and a U.S. tour, Dog Faced Hermans went on an indefinite hiatus. Members have since pursued various creative paths, with Marion becoming a sculptor in London, Andy joining The Ex full-time, Wilf moving to Canada to join Rhythm Activism, and Colin reportedly running a record store in Scotland.

Those Deep Buds is a vivid reminder of what made Dog Faced Hermans so special—an album that remains as potent and relevant today as it was at its inception. Now, with the remastered digital release, a new generation of listeners can experience its brilliance.
